After posting a picture of my command center in a 1THRIVE Facebook group, I’ve received many comments and private messages from people asking how I make my own calendar magnets. I figured the easiest way for me to share my materials and methods would be here. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the comments at the bottom of this post.

For a million and one reasons I am absolutely obsessed with my 1THRIVE Family Command Center, I even wrote a whole blog post about it here.
This truly has become my favorite little corner of my house. I love filling out my calendar – but I have a thing about making things look perfect. I noticed that repetitious calendar items were driving me incredibly crazy because I felt like they needed to match. To add another layer, since I use my 1THRIVE as a Family Command Center, I decided early on that I wanted to use illustrations on my calendar wherever possible so that my 4-year-old could start recognizing events that are coming up.
My date magnets are 100% DIY. I purchased these 0.5″ ceramic disc magnets and added dates to them using label paper that I had on hand. If you have a circuit or a silhouette, you can also add numbers to the discs that way. This whole process was a bit time consuming – but you only need to do it once, and the result is so clean looking.
For my numbers, I chose the font Bodini because I felt it would match nicely with the paper calendar add-on I purchased for my system.
What’s nice about doing it yourself is that you have complete creative control to make the elements of your calendar exactly how you want them, rather than retrofitting something else. Not to say that there aren’t some really great options out there. Below I have listed a few pre-made date magents that could work with 1THRIVE.
Erin Condren Designer Sticker Sheets – Metallic Gold Date Dots Stickers
Whiteboard Calendar Magnet Bundle (Dates, Days of The Week, Months) 0.5″x0.5″
Stainless Steel Calendar Magnets 0.5″x0.5″
Printable Magnet Paper
Yea, I know – this is really a thing! My personal favorite when it comes to customizing my magnetic calendars. You can run this magnetic paper through your ink-jet printer or draw on it directly and then just cut it out.
The magnet above I made for my son’s first birthday. I wanted to do something more than just write his name to mark this milestone on our command center. I can’t even tell you how happy it makes me to see his little face up there; even better – my four-year-old can recognize by sight when this day is approaching.
The magnets can also be used in situations where you’d like to show more detail in a calendar callout – like a to-do list or when the marker strokes are way too thick to get across your message. You can write on them and cut them to any shape you need. The possibilities are literally limited only by your imagination.
