My son is getting used to making creative requests for breakfast. So when he asked me for a Stegasaurus breakfast special this is what he got. Why breakfast? It’s easier for me to take the extra time to make him something special in the mornings than trying to fit it into the chaos of my everyday.
Why spend the time to do this at all? Aside from the joy he gets from it, my son is a visual eater. No that does not mean that he will only eat food that is prepared to look like dinos, it means that if he’s in the mood for a snack and I try to give him a sandwich I will get a ‘noooooo how dare you mommy I want a snack’. If I take that same sandwich and cut it into little stars with a cookie cutter – instead I will get a “Thank you so much Mommy!”
• whole wheat bread
• 4 eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1/2 tsp cinnamon
• coconut oil
• 1/4 cup milk
• chocolate chips
• turkey bacon
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes
1. Prepare your bread wash, beat eggs, milk, vanilla & cinnamon
2. Dip bread in mixture, coating both sides evenly
3. Coat a small skillet, frying pan or griddle with coconut oil
4. Cook bread slices over a medium heat until browned on both sides
5. At this point set aside to cool off a bit so you don’t burn your fingers
6. Next cut the pattern below into the bread:
Once you have all of your ingredients prepped, grab a dish, and start plating. I used sliced strawberries to create the spine of the stegosaurus. My son is a dino expert these days so I needed to have a reference photo up or I would have been corrected. We also added a piece of turkey bacon to the bottom for the dino to stand on.
If you try this recipie I’d love to know what you think!
